Eyes on the prize

As I was coming back from work with my dog, I stopped by my watering hole (a pub right next to my place) for a drink. As I was ordering, some Swedish girls started playing with my dog. A few moments later I was talking to them. I asked if I could join them, they agreed, so I sat and started talking about their travels in the U.S.

Within an hour, they made it clear that they wanted to go dancing, and after discussing several options, I recommend a club downtown. They were excited about it and invited me. I accepted, stating that I would just have to run up and leave the dog at home. They said they would wait.

3 Minutes later I'm back, dog-less, yet stunned to find them being hit on by three motherfuckers. I approached the table, picked up my drink to signal that they were sitting at my place. They excused themselves for taking my place but offered me another seat.

So now I'm being cockblocked by 3 guys. What could I do to win this shake out?

I was at a disadvantage, and hit a metal block: I couldn't come up with any tactics to remove the girls from the place by themselves, without them inviting those guys. After 15 minutes of “where are you going” and “you should come!” proposals, the 3 guys stated that they were going to a different bar. I thought I was going to win, until the girls changed their minds and chose to go with them, while inviting me to tag along. I denied and went home, pissed.

What went wrong?

Well, from the start I was at a disadvantage trying to pick up one out of two friends. So when the three guys approached them, they turned out to be the better option, from a group chemistry point of view.

What could I have done?

I should have not let go of them from my sight. When I went upstairs to drop off my dog, those guys thought I left the game and legally approached my girls. I should have taken them out of the bar (out of the way from other wolves) and made them wait downstairs or “come upstairs real quick.”

So what is the lesson? Well, when there is a lack of women, you better keep your eyes on the prize.

Don't go to the bathroom until she goes.

Don't get her a drink without her coming with.

Don't drop of your damn dog while leaving them up for grabs.

Does this rule always apply?

No.

But as general rule, if she is acceptable by your standards, stick to her all night long. If your female cousin introduces you to her friends at a bar, greet them all; ask your cousin which one is available, and run with it. Pull her aside so you two can have your private conversation while still being close to everyone else and forget considering the other friends. The girl you are concentrating on will appreciate your dedication to her, and it will payoff sooner or later.

There are situations where you want to hustle them, to make your self more valuable by being more scarce or to just walk around to see if there is someone less annoying than your target. If she starts acting snooty, THEN you start inviting other girls into the conversation, going to the bathroom or to the bar so that you can make her understand that there are other girls after you.

But if she is nice, stick with her and block out the rest of the world. By the end of the night, you'll be getting plenty more than if you had hustled.
